GCW Udhampur Concludes Week-Long International Women's Day Celebration With Grand Valedictory Session

Government College for Women(GCW), Udhampur marked the culmination of a week-long celebration honouring International Women's Day with a spectacular valedictory session on March 15, 2024.
The event, held on campus, was a tribute to the resilience, achievements, and contributions of women in all spheres of life.
Throughout the week, the Women Empowerment and Development Cell under the aegis of IQAC, organized a series of empowering and enriching activities aimed at promoting gender equality, celebrating diversity, and highlighting the importance of women's rights. From insightful Webinars and inspirational talks to engaging workshops and artistic performances, the college community came together to commemorate the spirit of womanhood.
The celebration started with the online session of Dr. Ifrah Dil Nawaz, Medical Officer (BHMS) on Day 1, who spoke on the topic, “ Common female health issues”, on Day 2, Dr. Simran Preet Kaur, AP, Bhartiya Vidhya Peeth Deemed University, Pune delivered an online lecture on, “Inspire Inclusion: Breaking barriers for Gender Equality”, followed by Lt Col Ruby Garg, HQ NC, on Day 3 who presented a Seminar on “How to join Indian Army”. On Day 4, the webinar was conducted by Ms. Maansi Gupta, Executive Director, MS Design School, who spoke on the topic, “Developing Entrepreneurial Mindset and skills among young Women, and on Day 5, Dr. Piyali Arora, AP, GDC Udhampur conducted the webinar on “Women and Mental Health.
The valedictory session served as a fitting finale to the festivities, featuring a lineup of distinguished speakers, cultural presentations, and special recognitions. NCC Cadets from both 1&2 NCC Girls Bn, Srinagar and Jammu presenting scintillating dance performances on the theme ‘Womanhood’. Cpl. Maanvi presented a beautiful self composed poem on the occasion. Attendees had the opportunity to reflect on the progress made in advancing women's rights while acknowledging the challenges that still lie ahead.
"We are immensely proud to have hosted a week-long celebration dedicated to honouring the invaluable contributions of women to society," said Prof. Nalini Pathania, Principal, GCW Udhampur. She further added, "This event not only provided a platform for meaningful dialogue and reflection but also fostered a sense of solidarity and empowerment among our students, faculty, and staff."
The formal Welcome Address was presented by Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Co- convener, WDEC, the report Reading of the complete event was done by Dr. Geetanjali Rajput , Convener, WDEC, and the formal Vote of thanks was given by Dr. Kamal Deep Kaur, Member, WDEC. The highlight of the valedictory session was the book release of Dr. Kamal Deep Kaur, who has authored reference books for college students. The Resource persons of the week long programme were felicitated in absentia for their demonstration and exceptional commitment to gender equality and women's empowerment. From outstanding students and faculty members to community leaders and Army Officers, each recipient was lauded for their dedication to promoting positive change and inclusivity.
The overall compering of the event was done by Ms. Esheeta Kachroo, a student of BA Sem 6 of the college.
As the festivities came to a close, participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to engage in meaningful conversations, forge new connections, and reaffirm their commitment to advancing gender equality both within the college community and beyond.
GCW's week-long Women's Day celebration not only served as a platform for education and advocacy but also inspired individuals to continue championing the cause of women's rights and empowerment throughout the year.
The programme was attended by college faculty including Dr. Seema Sharma, Dr. Indu Khajuria, Dr. Monika Gupta, Ms. Anita Gupta, Dr. Geetanjali Rajput, Dr. Mool Raj, Dr. Yashpaul Singh , Dr. Shivani Suri Verma, Dr. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Ms. Swarna Devi, Dr. Kamal Deep Kaur, Dr. Ravinder Kumar, Ms. Rachna Bharti, Mr. Yashpaul, Mr. Varun Sharma, Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, Ms. Meenakshi Jamwal, Dr. Sarabjeet Kour, Prof. Rukhsana Kousar, Dr. Swati Dutt, Ms. Shama Rani, Ms. Manju Bala, Ms. Pooja Bharti, and other faculty of the college. Almost 150 students attended the programme.
