The Literary Club and Department of Hindi of Government College for Women (GCW), Udhampur in collaboration with Jammu Kashmir Rashtriya Bhasha Prachar Smiti Jammu today celebrated International Hindi Diwas under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav(AKAM) at college campus on January 18, 2023.
Padma Shri Prof. Shiv Nirmohi was the chief guest on the occasion whereas Dr. Adarsh Prakash, a renowned writer & poet was the guest of honor. The programme started with the lightning of traditional lamp.
Padma Shri Prof. Shiv Nirmohi impressed upon the significance of every language and he also exhibited the inter-relatedness of various languages that how each language has helped the other language in its evolution. Prof. Nirmohi also talked about the holistic nature of every language that how different nations are geographically divided but language-wise are one.
Earlier, In her welcome address, Principal of the host college Dr. Monika Sharma stressed upon the importance of different languages in general and of Hindi in particular. Afterwards, the students also enthusiastically participated in the function where they recited poems and talked about the importance of Hindi language in the country.
On the occasion, President Jammu Kashmir Rashtriya Basha Prachar Smiti Jammu Dr. B.B Sharma gifted a book entitled Bhartiya Basha Kosh to the Principal, Dr. Monika Sharma. He also highlighted the history and importance of international Hindi Day (Vishwa Hindi Diwas) which celebrated worldwide every year.
The Kavi Samelan was also organized in the event under the presidentship of Dr. Adarsh Prakash. Ms. Girija Sharma, Mr. Varun Veer, Ms Neelu Thappa, Dr. Mool Raj, Dr. Mukhteshi Sharma recited poems in the Kavi Samelan.
The entire event was conducted by Dr. Rumaisa Nazir, lecturer in Hindi and Vote of thanks was given by Mr. Mushtaq Ahmed, HOD Hindi. As many as 250 students of the college witnessed the Kavi Samelen.
Among others, Prof. Vijay Kumar Sharma, Dr. Sumit Sharma, Prof Yash Paul, Mr. Arun Kumar, Dr. Sushma Choudhary, Prof. Shama Rani, Prof. Rekha Sharma, Prof. Rajinder Singh, Prof. Yash Kumar, other teaching and non- teaching staff members were also present on the occasion.
