A one-day seminar on the topic ‘’ROLE OF DR.B. R AMBEDKAR IN WOMEN EMPOWERMENT” and a Poster making competition with the theme: -LIFE AND CONTRIBUTION OF DR. B.R AMBEDKAR” was organized on 13th of April 2022, to commemorate 131st birth anniversary of Bharat Ratan Baba Sahib Dr. B.R Ambedkar under Heritage Club, Govt. College for woman Udhampur in collaboration with Literary Club and Department of Music GCW Udhampur. Wherein principal [i/c] GCW Udhampur Prof. Kewal Kumar was chief Guest, Prof. Kali Dass a renowned scholar, social activist and regular columnist of daily excelsior was guest of honour and chief resource person on this occasion. Mr. M.R. Bangotra, a social worker and member of Ambedkar welfare society was special guest. The program begins with the lightening of ceremonial lamp and offering floral tribute to Dr. B. R Ambedkar. Principal of the college along with the convener of the committees welcomed the guests by presenting floral bouquet to the guest of honor [ resource person] and special guest. Dr. Mool Raj convener of literary club formaly introduced the chief resource person and other dignitaries present in the program. Principal of the college in his welcome address extended warm greetings to the chief guest and also applauded the efforts of the Heritage club, literary club and Music department GCW Udhampur for organizing one day seminar and inter collegiate poster making competition for the students. He also urged the participants and audience to uphold the teachings of Dr. B.R Ambedkar by following the concept of Equality, Freedom, Franchise and fraternity. Seminar was convened in two sessions, in the morning session ten speakers from various colleges of the vicinity presented their papers on the given topic and shared many unknown facts about the struggle of DR.B. R Ambedkar in emancipation of women and in the afternoon session eight speakers presented their thoughts through paper presentation in which they highlighted the unprecedented efforts of Baba Sahib in shattering the dogmatic set up of the society against women. On this occasion special guest Mr. M. R Bangotra emphasized on the role of women in various capacities like mother, sister, daughter wife and house maker and urged to follow the teachings of Baba sahib incorporated in Indian constitution for upliftment of women as half of India’s population accounts of women only and if they are developed socially, economically, politically and educationally, India will automatically become a developed nation. Chief resource person Prof. Kali Dass elaborated the condition of women pre and post implementation of Indian constitution. While highlighting the pre constitution era he touched the ill practices prevalent in the Indian society like, Sati System, Child Marriage, Female infanticide, deprived of education, Purdah system and many more. But after the implementation of constitution all such practices declared as offences by law as all these were the blots on the face of Indian society and if anybody found indulged in such crimes be penalized under various sections and codes of the Indian constitution. He also acquainted the participants about various articles of Indian constitution for protection of women rights. In conclusion he said that Indian society is a progeny of composite culture and both men and women are equally important for nation to develop. In Poster making competition there were ten participants in contention and Mr. Tarseem Lal [Bhartiya college udh], Mr. Gourav Goswami [Bhaskar Degree college udh], Rohini Thakur [GDC Ramnagar] were adjudged first, second and third respectively. All the participants were felicitated with prizes and certificates. The events were adjudged by Prof. Tania Akhter, Dr. Rippy Bawa [GDC Udh] Dr. Om Parkash [GDC Ramnagar] Prof. Meena Gupta, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed and Dr. Ravinder Kumar. A colorful cultural program on this eve was also presented by the students of Department of music under the able guidance of Prof. Yash Kumar and Dr. Sanjay Kalotra [Dept. of Music].The proceedings of the program was conducted by Ms. Neesha and Ms. Piyush Sharma of sem.5th and 3rd GCW Udhampur. About one hundred fifty students and Fifty faculty members across disciplines of various colleges [GDC Ramnagar, GDC Boys, GCW Udhampur, Bhaskar Degree college Udhampur, Bhartiya College of Education and other colleges of the vicinity] participated in the seminar. The entire program was conducted under the supervision of members of Heritage club, Literary Club and Department of Music. The formal vote of thanks on this occasion was presented by Prof. Yash Paul (Convener Heritage Club).
